Dear Steve,
Many, many thanks for sending me the two enlargements of your postcard. I am sitting with my father Earl Clyde Carhart M.D. in his Cameron car. On the balcony at the extreme right, is my mother, Kathleen Mary (White) Carhart with elder daughter Pauline Elizabeth Carhart. In the center of the balcony is nurse Nina Moore, and the gentleman in the doorway is my grandfather John Samuel Carhart. The woman at the left is an assistant and I only remember that she was called "Tina". I was born Nov. 16, 1909 and this picutre was taken in 1912 so I was around 2 1/2 to 3 years old.
It is interesting to note that my mother always had my sister Pauline's hair in braids with two big ribbon bows. She was a beautiful little girl, and was named Elizabeth after my grandmother Elizabeth Ivy Carhart.
When I was born my father delivered me, and he said to my mother. "Mom, she's not our boy, but she'll be our Joy." And that is how I received the name "Joy".
I really appreciate these pictures - they bring back many memories for me. I remember making mud pies (to the left of the screened porch) in the vacant lot. And I remember the time Braden and Aunt Gretta came ot call, and Braden (Uncle Ben's son) and I got into my father's pill case and in playing "Hospital" we ate strychnine. Mother and Aunt Gretta went to work at once and made us swallow egg whites until we were both very sick, but they saved our lives.
Enough reminiscining, and thanks again. These pictures will mean a lot to my son, John Norfleet D.D.S. and his daughter.
Hope your charming wife and lovely children are well, and don't work too hard Steve. Keep in good health.
Sincerely,
Joy Carhart Fuenzalida
