The assumption is that Joseph Carhart is the son of John Carhart and Mary Bond:
(a) Joseph reports on Census record for 1851 that he was born in St. Ervan, Cornwall:
(a) Joseph reports on Census record for 1851 that he was born in St. Ervan, Cornwall:
(b) The marriage record for Joseph Carhart to Mary Sloggett states that Joseph is the son of John Carhart and his occupation is "Miller".
(c) In 1851, John Carhart was reported on the England Census as a miller and farmer in St. Breock, Cornwall:
(d) There are no other "John Carhart" families in Saint Ervan around 1828 (search on www.cornwall-opc-database.org for Baptisms in St. Ervan from 1800 to 1850 for Surname Carhart): [John Carhart and Elizabeth were married in 1836]
(e) Both John Carhart and Mary Sloggett's father, Thomas Sloggett were born in Saint Breock, Cornwall, so the families could have been acquainted. The question is why there is no baptism record for Joseph. This also opens the possibility for other children being born to John Carhart and Mary Bond around this time.
