Former Resident Dies
Ashton Carhart, of Minneapolis, died in Abbott hospital, in Minneapolis Thursday, following a cerebral hemorrhage. He was taken ill on Sunday. Memorial services were held Saturday morning in Minneapolis, after which the remains were brought to Sheffield and services were held in the Methodist church at 3:30 o'clock, with Rev. Frank Nichols in charge. Burial was made in Hillside cemetery.
Ashton Carhart was born April 16, 1905 at Traer, Iowa, the son of Herman and Maude Carhart. Shortly after his birth he was brought to Sheffield where his early life was spent. He was graduated from Shattuck Military Academy, at Fairbault, Minnesota, Grinnell College and Harvard University.
In 1928 he joined the First National Bank of Minneapolis, and in 1938 was made a bank officer. In 1947 he assumed the office of vice president of the commercial banking department. He also headed the bank's division, dealing with national corporations and related business departments.
Mr. Carhart was prominent in banking circles and belonged to the association of reserve city banks and Robert Morris Associates.
He was active and held offices in the Minneapolis Chamber of Commerce, Retail Credit Association, Civic Council Citizens League of Greater Minneapolis, and was awarded the gold key award by the Minneapolis Junior Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Minneapolis Club, University Club and Harvard Club of New York City.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include two uncles, Ralph Carhart, of Pasadena, California, and Forrest Carhart, of Des Moines.

LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT
I, H. L. Carhart, of Sheffield, Franklin County, Iowa, being of sound and disposing mind and memory, do make, publish and declare this to be my last Will and Testament, hereby revoking all former Wills at any time here tofore made by me:
Par. 1. I direct that my just debts, expenses of last sickness and funeral expenses be first paid.
Par. 2. After the payment of my debts, I give, devise and bequeath all the rest and remainder of all my property of every kind and nature and wheresoever situated, to my belove wife, Maude A. Carhart.
Par. 3. I nominate Maude A. Carhart as executrix of this my Last Will and Testament, and direct that she serve without bond.

Last Rites Held For Sheffield Woman
Mrs. H. L. Carhart Died Friday At Mason City
Sheffield, Iowa, Feb. 3. -- Mrs. H. L. Carhart passed away suddenly at the Park hospital, in Mason City, Friday, following a heart attack. She entered the hospital for treatment January 23rd.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, at the Wartnaby funeral home with Rev. C. S. Fort, pastor of the Methodist church, in charge. The Order of Eastern Star also took part in the services. Burial was made in Hillside cemetery.
Maude Ashton was born September 6, 1879, in Traer, Iowa, where she grew to young womanhood. She was united in marriage to H. L. Carhart, June 24, 1903, at Traer. They came to Sheffield following their marriage where she since had made her home. Mr. Carhart preceded her in death.
Mrs. Carhart was a member of Chapter FD, P. E. O., Order of Eastern Star, library board, Thursday Study Club and the Methodist church.
Surviving are her son, Ashton Carhart, a vice president of the First National Bank, Minneapolis.
