Harry White Dies In His 77th Year
Well Known Belford Resident Passed Away at His Winter Home at St. Petersburg, Florida -- Funeral This Afternoon.
Belford lost one of its best known residents Friday in the sudden death of Harry White. He died very suddenly at his winter home at St. Petersburg, Florida, in his 77th year. His birthday would have occurred last Sunday. Death was due to heart disease.
Mr. White was born at Belford and he had always lived there. Fifty-two years ago he married Miss Carrie Carhart of Navesink by whom he is survived. He was engaged in the fishing business, but he retired from active work twelve years ago. For a number of years past he and his wife had spent the winter in Florida, returning in May. The trip was made by automobile, Mr. White doing the driving. He enjoyed remarkably good health for one of his years, and his unexpected end was a great shock to his relatives and friends. He was a member of the American Mechanics lodge of Belford.
Mr. White leaves three daughters and two sons. They are Mrs. Aline Rauscher, Raymond White, Mrs. William Thompson and Alton White of Belford and Mrs. J. Monroe Watson of Matawan. He is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Pearl White of Belford, widow of Clifford White, and by 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at three o'clock this afternoon at the home of Mrs. Rauscher. It will be conducted by Rev. Elijah Reid of Little Silver, assisted by Rev. Nelson Moore of Belford. The interment will be in Bay View cemetery.
Carrie died at the age of 77 on 13 Oct 1942 in Long Branch, Monmouth, New Jersey, United States. She was buried in Bay View Cemetery, Leonardo, Monmouth, New Jersey, United States [Find A Grave Memorial #70397738].
A newspaper article about Carrie's estate was published 20 November 1942 in Asbury Park, Monmouth, New Jersey, United States:
Mrs. Carrie White, Belford, who died Oct. 13, left $25 to each of her grandchildren, Muriel Hofman and Albert and Jay White. Property she owned on Main street, Belford, goes to Alton White, a son. Mrs. White also directed that $1,500 be divided equally from the residuary of her estate among Aline Rauscher, Mabel Thompson, Raymond White and Flora Watson, her children. The residuary is to be divided among these four and Alton White equally.
Flora Watson and Alton White were named executors. The will was dated Oct. 3, 1940. Flora Watson and Mabel Thompson were also bequeathed a diamond ring each.
