Pioneer John G. Meyer Dies at Uehling Home
John Gerhard Meyer, age 87, of Uehling, a pioneer resident of this locality and well known to many of the older residents of this place, passed away Monday afternoon at his Uehling home from a protracted illness due to ailments incidental to old age. His remains were taken in charge of by the Wollmer & Warne mortuary service. Funeral services will be held this Thursday afternoon with short services at 1 o'clock at the home in Uehling and at 2 o'clock from the St. Paul Lutheran church, north of town, Rev. H. O. Rhode officiating. Interment will take place in the church cemetery.
Mr. Meyer was born September 1, 1846, at Hatten-Wusting, Oldenburg, Germany. When a young man he followed the interior decorator trade to earn money for passage to America. He came to America in May, 1868, and direct to Omaha, from where he and others drove to this locality to the Gerhard Monnich farm. He took a homestead which he later sold and invested in other lands. He was a man highly respected by all who knew him.
He married on June 9, 1874, to Miss Marie Staver, who survives him. Other surviving close relatives are ten children Mrs. Charles Henneman of Springview, Herman F. Meyer of Scribner, Mrs. Wm. Henneman of Milboro, S. D., Bernard and John G. Meyer and Mrs. Lars Jorgensen of Uehling, Mrs. Hans Jorgensen of Cololme, S., D., Miss kate Meyer of Akron, Colo., Mrs. Gustave Wurdemann of Omaha and Mrs. Henry Dicke of Wauneta. He is also survived by 27 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Pioneer Woman Dies at Uehling
Funeral rites were held yesterday afternoon at St. Paul Lutheran church for Mrs. Marie Meyer, 88, long time resident of this locality, whose death occurred Sunday at her home at Uehling. Rev. Hugo Welchert was the officiating clergyman and Wollmer & Warne of Hooper directed the arrangements.
Mrs. Meyer, widow of the late J. G. Meyer, was born July 21, 1854, at Oldenburg, Germany, and passed away January 10, 1943, of infirmities incidental to her age.
She is survived by three sons, Herman of Scribner and Bernard and John of Uehling, and seven daughters, Mesdames Chas. Henneman, Springview; Wm Henneman, Colome, S. D.; Bertha Jorgensen, Oakland, Calif.; Kathryn Slee, Waldren, Colo.; Gus Wurdemann, Omaha; Henry Dicke, Straton; Lars Jorgensen, Uehling.
Music for the services was furnished by the ladies of St. Paul Lutheran church and the Lutheran Sisterhood of Uehling. Mrs. Wm Havekost served as organist and pallbearers were Walter Maas, Kermit Meyer, Ellwood Carlson, Lavern Moseman and Lloyd and Clifford Jorgensen. Interment was made in the church cemetery.
