Raymond "Ray" P. Conway Sr.
PITTSTOWN - Raymond "Ray" P. Conway Sr., 75, of Phillips Road, died peacefully, Tuesday, February 5, 2013, surrounded by his family following a short illness. Born in Milwaukee, WI, March 24, 1937, Ray was the son of the late Paul and Myrtle (Evans) Conway and the loving husband of the late Margaret "Maggie" F. (Carhart) Conway. Ray attended West Division High School in Wisconsin. He enlisted in the United States Air Force on June 28, 1954 and after basic training was stationed over seas during the Korean Conflict as a flight specialist. After 4 years of service he was honorably discharged with the rank of Airman 3rd Class. In 1962, he relocated to the Capital District and in 1970 established his home on Phillips Road. He has worked for several area manufacturers over the years including Star Textile, the former Continental Can Mfg. Co., Norton Company, as a selector at the former Grand Union for over 23 years and more recently as a receiver of goods at the Brunswick Walmart since 1996. Ray retired in 2004. In his quiet time Ray enjoyed his family and puppies, was a loyal Greenbay Packers Football fan, and loved to watch movies, especially about gangsters and old westerns. Ray is survived by his five children, Raymond P. (the late Melody) Conway of Tucson, AZ, Edward and Lynn Conway of Loudonville, Phillip and Irene Conway of Raymertown, Tricia and Kevin Murray of Clifton Park and Colleen Audette and Vincent James of Waterford; a brother, Edward C. Conway of Troy; 11 granchildren: Charlotte Conway, Nicholas Conway, Randi-Leigh Audette, Danielle Audette, Clarissa Conway, Ian Murray, Joseph Raymond Conway, Connor Murray, Zoe James, Kiera Murray and Megan Murray. In addition to his parents and wife, Maggie, a brother, the late Robert H. Conway predeceased him. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Saturday, February 9, 2013, from 3:00 - 6:00 P.M. at the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 New York Route 7, located in Raymertown, to be followed by a prayer service at 6:00 P.M. Internment at Saratoga National Cemetery, with military honors will take place later this spring at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Pittstown Volunteer Emergency Corps., 60 Parker School Road, Johnsonville, NY 12094 in memory of Raymond P. Conway Sr. The Conway family wishes to express their most sincere thanks and love to Uncle Charlie for his care and compassion shown to Ray over these last few days and weeks which enabled him to stay at home and pass with both dignity and peace around those who loved him most.
