Eldred Perry Carhart Sr., 73, of 70 Balmville Road, husband of Katherine Mashnouk Carhart, died at St. Luke's Hospital on Monday after a long illness.
Born in New York City July 24, 1904, son of the late Ralph and Leanetta Bedle Carhart, he had lived in Newburgh for 50 years and was a member of the Union Presbyterian Church, Newburgh Lodge of Masons, Cherokee Preserve Club of Bethel and Telephone pioneers of America.
In 1938 he served as commodore of the Newburgh Yacht Club and in 1953 was named Newburgh father of the year.
Carhart was employed by the New York Telephone Co. for 40 years retiring 12 years ago.
Survivors include his widow, one son Eldred P. Carhart Jr. of Newburgh; one daughter, Ann C. Stewart of East Lyme, Conn.; two brothers, Ralph of Mongaup Valley and Bruce of Otisville, and six grandchildren.
Friends may call today at Perrott's Funeral Home, where services will be held Wednesday.
