Mrs. Gersham Carhart of Keyport was stricken with paralysis on Sunday of last week, while on her way home from a call on her daughter. She was carried home, but lived only a short time.

A Sudden Death
Last Saturday afternoon Mrs. Mary A. Carhart, wife of Gershom O. Carhart, of Green Grove avenue, went to call on a relative a little distance away. While returning home she was overcome with illness and fell to the ground just as she reached her gate. Her daughter ran out and assisted her into the house, but she never regained consciousness and died at 2.15 Sunday afternoon. Her last words were spoken to her daughter, when she lay on the ground at the gate. Mrs. Carhart was aged 61 years, 4 months, and the funeral occurred Wednesday afternoon from the M. E. church, interment being in Green Grove cemetery. The attending physician said death was caused by a stoke of paralysis which affected her brain.

Gershom Carhart died last Friday at the home of his daugher, Mrs. Lorenzo D. Havens of Keyport. He was 89 years old and his death was due to general debility. Mr. Carhart was the son of John Carhart and was born in Monmouth county. He was a shoemaker by trade and he had been in business in various parts of New Jersey and in the West. He was twice married, his wives being sisters, Hettie and Mary Smith. Seventeen children, twelve of whom are living were the result of the two unions. Those who survive are Mrs. Lorenzo Havens and Henry Carhart of Keyport, Stephen and Burnett Carhart of Port Monmouth, Arthur and Elmer Carhart of Keansburg, Mrs. Josephine Davis of Atlantic Highlands, Mrs. Eva Voorhees of Freehold, Reuben Carhart of Bridgeboro, Rev. William Carhart of Illinois, Edson Carhart of Riverton, and George Carhart of Washington, D.C.

GERSHOM CARHART.
Gershom Carhart died at the residence of his son-in-law, Lorenzo D. Havens, on Manchester avenue, this morning, aged 89 years, lacking only a few days.
Mr. Carhart was the son of John Carhart and was born in Monmouth county. He was twice married, his first wife being Miss Hettie Smith and his second, Miss Mary Smith, sister of his wife. By these he had seventeen children, of whom twelve survive, viz: -- Stephen Carhart, of Port Monmouth; Reuben Carhart, of Bridgeboro; Henry Carhart, of Keyport; Rev. William Carhart, of Illinois; Edson Carhart, of Riverton; Mrs. Josephine Davis, of Atlantic Highlands; Mrs. Eva Voorhees, of Freehold; George Carhart, of Washington, D. C.; Barnett Carhart, of Port Monmouth; Arthur and Elmer Carhart, of Keansburgh, and Mrs. Margaret Havens, of Keyport.
Mr. Carhart was a shoemaker by trade and had lived in various parts of New Jersey and the west. He had resided with his daughter, Mrs. Havens, for a few years past.
The funeral services will take place from the house, on Sunday afternoon, at 3:30 o'clock, Rev. S. K. Hickman officiating; interment in Green Grove cemetery.
