For today's hike, I started out on Trail #316 from the Thumb Butte parking area. The first thing I see is a coyote and thought he wanted to hike with me as he didn't seem very alarmed that I was there but soon went off on his own (sadly no picture).
There are a variety of different trails that intersect with #316 and you can make the hike whatever distance you wish to do. I decided to get away from the populated areas and take Trail #318 that heads off to the West.

There were a couple beautiful blooming century plants - the picture doesn't do justice to the colors.
Trail #318 is a gradual uphill for about a mile (total gain is about 400 ft) and then goes downhill to meet up with Prescott Circle Trail #332. This was just under 2 miles in length and I returned back the same route rather than to take #332 down to the road and over to the parking area. At the peak of the hill you get a great view of Granite Mountain to the north.
The hike was just under 4 miles and I completed it in one hour fifteen minutes.
I enjoyed this hike and will do this section again combined with some other of the local trails to make it a longer hike later in the summer.
This hike gets 4 boots out of 5!
