Today's hike is Lynx Lake - one of my favorite hikes. I usually park at the North Parking lot by Lynx Lake Cafe. The trail goes around the lake - I start out left towards the dam and circle around to the boat ramp and then over to the boat rental and back to the north parking lot. It is short - less than 3 miles and relatively flat. I finish in about an hour, depending on how many photo stops I take.
The Prescott National Forest requires a $5 daily fee for their Forest recreation sites near Prescott - Lynx Lake, Thumb Butte, Granite Basin and Mingus Mountain. A parking permit for the park is $40 annually (or you can buy 2 for $50 and split with a friend). Since both Thumb Butte and Lynx Lake are a couple of my favorites, it is definitely worth getting the permit. I hear there is also an pass for seniors for several recreation areas that costs next to nothing - $10 I think (affectionately known as the "geezer pass"). If you are 65 or older, you will want to check into that!
There are boat and kayak rentals available, which are fun and reasonable. A great place to go only minutes from downtown Prescott.
There are a couple great trails that you can access from Lynx Lake - Salida Gulch #95 and Homestead #305 so those are on my list for future hikes.
