WASHINGTON TWP. -- Vincent W. Carhart died Thursday at Hackettstown Community Hospital. He was 85.
He was born in Elizabeth and lived in Madison before moving to Washington Township in 1989.
Mr. Carhart was head of the insurance department at Texaco Corp. in New York City until retiring many years ago.
He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Hackettstown.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel (Herrmann); two sons, John C. of Forked River and William W. of Ringoes; a daughter, Margaret Smith of South Orange; and five grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High St., Hackettstown.

ETHEL H. HERRMANN CARHART, 94 of Whiting, Manchester, died Wednesday, June 28, at Keswick Pines Life Care, Whiting. Mrs. Carhart was born in Elizabeth and was formerly of Union and Madison before moving to Whiting in 1996. She was a former member of the Madison Presbyterian Church, Madison and currently attending services at Keswick Pines, Whiting.
Mrs. Carhart was predeceased by her husband, Vincent, who died in 1995. Surviving are two sons, William of Ringoes, and Pastor John and his wife Betty of Forked River, Lacey; a daughter, Margaret Smith and her husband Richard of Florida; two grandsons, Andrew Smith and Peter Curley; three granddaughters, Laura Curley, Sara Carpini, and Becky DAleo; and three great-grandchildren, Kevin, Carmine and Lori.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Riggs Funeral Home, 130 Route 9 North, Forked River. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
