PHARR, Texas - Rowland C. "Andy" Anderson, 74, formerly of St. Cloud, Minn., died Wednesday at McAllen Medical Center, McAllen, Texas.
Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at Tropic Star Park.
There will be no visitation. Arrangements were by Skinner Funeral Home in Pharr.
Rowland Anderson was born July 29, 1912, in Cyrus, Minn., to Carl and Lily Anderson. He was a professor at St. Cloud State University from 1938 until his retirement as head of the mass communications department in 1974. He took a two-year leave from the university to teach at University of Kampala, Uganda, Africa, did volunteer teaching in Island San Andres and moved to Rio Grande Valley, Texas, where he was a winter resident in 1976. He was in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a flight navigator and instructor and taught night classes at Pan American University, Edinburg, Texas.
Survivors include his wie, Winness; daughters, Winness Pierce and Carlyn Runquist, Anoka, Minn.; Marcia Henderson, Wyoming, Minn.; and 10 grandchildren.
Winness died at the age of 93 on 8 Aug 2006 in Chisago City, Chisago, Minnesota, United States. She was buried in Pierce Cemetery, Oak Grove, Anoka, Minnesota, United States (Find A Grave Memorial #88706779). Passed peacefully, which was unusual for her, she now dances in the bright beyond.
Married to Rowland Anderson for 51 years. They traveled the world and brightened the lives of many.
Survived by daughters: Winness Pierce (Paul), Marcia Henderson (Robert), and Carlyn Runquist; ten grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren.
Memorial service Friday August 11 at Parmly Residence, 28210 Old Towne Road, Chisago City at 7:30 p.m. Visitation one hour prior to service.
No flowers please. Any memorials will be used for the Rowland Anderson Scholarship Funds.
