CALVIN T. CARHART
AGE: 89 RED BANK
Calvin (C.T.) Carhart of Red Bank, Middletown, and Marathon, Florida died peacefully at home on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010 after a short illness. Calvin was born in Long Branch and grew up and made his home in Red Bank. He graduated from Red Bank High School in 1939 and began working at the Merchants Trust Co. as a messenger and bookkeeper, leaving in 1942, enlisting in the Army Air Corps. Calvin was an original member of the 366th FG, 391st FS. He flew 83 combat missions from England and France including the D Day Invasion and the St. Lo Breakout. For his actions at St Lo he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. He served in the Air Corps Reserve after the war. In Oct. 1945 he went to work for Bradley Radio Service which became Monmouth Radio Supply Co. in Tinton Falls and where he became manager and eventually owner and operator for a span of 38 years. Calvin joined Independent Engine Co. of R.B.V.F.D. in 1946 holding various company and line officer positions and being elected Deputy Chief and Chief from 1963 -1965. He was a volunteer for the Red Bank First Aid and treasurer of the first aid building fund, Independent Engine Co., the fire dept. Executive Council, and Firemen's Relief. Calvin was also a member of the Red Bank Elks, the Masonic Lodge and the Red Bank Regional H.S. Hall of Fame (2008).
Calvin was predeceased by his parents, John James and Jane Elizabeth Carhart, and his sister and brother-in-law, Audrey and Charles Senion. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Ada (Fowler); 4 sons, John (Blanca) of Eatontown, James (Maura) of Manasquan/Wall, Jay (Christine) of Red Bank, and Jeffrey (Celeste) of Maryland; 8 grandchildren, Steven, Jeanne, John, Maria, Evan, Jimmy, Laura, and Jon Carhart; 3 great-grandchildren, Ava, Grace, and Ella Carhart; his in-laws, Jack and Dot Fowler; 7 nieces, 8 nephews and extended family in Maryland and South America. We all hope that CT's afterlife is as wonderful as his life here and in the Keys: filled with family, friends, golf at Sombrero CC, fishing, sunsets, playing cards and unlimited vodka cranberry and lime in a tall glass with quick service.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 on Sunday, Dec. 5th at the Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St., Red Bank, NJ 07701. Memorial/farewell will be from the Thompson Memorial Home at 10:00 am on Monday, Dec. 6th followed by interment at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown.
