MONMOUTH BEACH, N. J., July 6 -- Harold V. Carhart, one-time fire chief here, and brother of former Mayor William F. Carhart of Monmouth Beach, died last night at his home, 9 Griffin Street. His age was 44. Mr. Carhart, who was born in New York, was a son of Mrs. Mary Hallacy Carhart and the late George Carhart. He leaves, besides his brother and mother, a widow, Mrs. Mary Jennings Carhart, and a daughter, Mary L. Carhart.

Carhart Dies Suddenly
MONMOUTH BEACH -- Harold V. Carhart, brother of former Mayor William F. Carhart and custodian of the public school here for the past 18 years and a former chief of the local fire department, died unexpectedly of a heart attack at 11:30 last night at his home, 9 Griffin st. His age was 44.
Although he had been under treatment for a heart ailment for the past year, his condition was not thought to be serious. He attended a motion picture show in Long Branch and was stricken shortly after arriving back home.
Mr. Carhart was born in New York City, a son of Mrs. Mary Hallacy Carhart and the late George Carhart. He had lived here for the past 39 years. He was a communicant of the Church of the Precious Blood, of this borough and a member of the Monmouth Beach Fire Company. He served as chief of the department during 1938.
Surviving besides his mother and brother, are his wife, Mary Jennings Carhart and a daughter, Mary L. Carhart, at home.
Funeral plans will be announced at the John W. Flock Funeral Home, 243 Broadway, Long Branch.

MONMOUTH BEACH - Mrs. Mary J. Carhart, 69, of 9 Griffin St. died Saturday in Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch.
Born in Newark, she had lived here 46 years. She was the widow of Harold Carhart.
Mrs. Carhart was a communicant of Precious Blood Catholic Church here, and was a member of its Altar-Rosary Society.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary Louise Carhart, at home; a brother, Michael Jennings of Toms River, and several nephews.
