Woman Dies Unexpectedly At Festival
Mrs. Sadie Kathleen Carhart, who resided with her son-in-law and daughter, Mrs. and Mrs. Harold K. Shields of Warm Springs Road, Huntingdon, R.D.2, died unexpectedly last night at about 10:30 whil attending the Stone Creek Valley Lions Festival at the park along Cold Spring Road.
Mrs. Carhart had been suffering from a heart condition for the past three years but had been in her usual health and her death was very unexpected. She suffered a heart attack and was taken to the J. C. Blair Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
She was born November 22, 1895 at Riverhead, Long Island, N.Y., a daughter of Joseph and Charlotte (Danhue) Periko. She was married to Crawford P. Carhart, Sr., on April 8, 1914, at Elizabeth, N.J., and he preceded her in death in 1942.
Surviving are three daughters, Miss Catherine Carhart of Garwood, N.J., Mrs. Michael (Dorothy) Kelly of Cranford, N.J., and Mrs. Harold K. (Ruth) Shields of Huntingdon, R.D.2. One son preceded her in death. There are three grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Michael (Amy) Keary of Farmingdale, Long Island, Mrs. Fred (Mae) Overton of Hampton Bays, Long Island and Mrs. Otto (Jule) Snedaker of Mendam, N.J., and one brother, Arthur Periko of Aquebouge, Long Island. One sister preceded her in death.
Mrs. Carhart was a member of the Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church of Huntingdon. She was a member of the Gold Star Mothers of Roselle Park, N.J. Most of her life had been spent in Long Island and New Jersey. She had resided in the Huntingdon area for the past four years. She attended the public schools of Riverhead, Long Island.
Requiem Mass will be celebrated at the St. Michael's Catholic Church at Cranford, N.J., at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 29. Interment will be made in the Evergreen Cemetery, Elizabeth, N.J. Friends will be received after 3 p.m. on Saturday until the hour of the services at the Daniel J. Leonard funeral home, Elizabeth, N.J. Funeral arrangements by Brown's funeral service of Huntingdon.
