Walter Carhart, DWU Alumnus, Dies in California
The Rev. Walter Carhart, 83, died Dec. 19 at Paradise, Calif.
Mr. Carhart, a graduate of Dakota Wesleyan University and a longtime missionary to Chile, was on tour of the United States when he became ill and died.
Funeral services were held in Paradise and the body will be cremated with the ashes to be returned to his beloved Chile where he spent more than 50 years in missionary work.
He was the uncle of the late Melvin Bauman of Mitchell and always remained closely affiliated with Dakota Wesleyan University.
They had retired from the active missionary work and were on tour as guests of a steamship company following which they planned to return to Chile on Jan. 14.
Mrs. Carhart, also a DWU alumnus, survives, as do two sons, Home and Ted Carhart, both DWU alumni, and Maurine, DWU alumnus of Santiago, Chile.
