Rachel E. Carhart
BEACON - Rachel E. Carhart, a lifelong Beacon resident, died Monday, April 2, 2007, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie. She was 81.
Born on February 20, 1926 in Beacon, she was the daughter of Edgar and Cora Hawks Thorn. She married Warren E. Carhart, who preceded her in death on November 21, 1995.
She was a Correction Officer at Fishkill Correctional Facility. She was a US Navy veteran, serving in World War II.
Mrs. Carhart is survived by her son, Edward W. Carhart, Beacon; her daughter, Terri R. Cable and her husband, Dennis, Fishkill; nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and one great great grandson. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by three brothers, Edgar, Charles, and Everett Thorn, and three sisters, Frances Schultz, Virginia Berner, and Cora Sandford.
She was a member of the Friday Afternoon Senior Bowling League, Ladies Monday Night Bowling League, Newburgh Bowling Association, and St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary.
The family will receive their friends from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at Halvey Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Willow Street, Beacon.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 5, at the funeral home with Rev. Edwin Cromey officiating.
Memorial donations in memory of Mrs. Carhart may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
