Annalee Carhart
Service for Annalee "Queenie" Carhart, 64, a well-known Spokane labor leader, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park.
Mrs. Carhart died Saturday at Deaconess Medical Center.
Daughter of Silas and Nella Jane (Frazier) McQueen, she was born Feb. 19, 1920, in Spokane. She was graduated from North Central High School.
She was sectretary-treasurer of Local 9118, Communication Workers of America, nearly 25 years and served 15 years on the Spokane Labor Council executive board.
Mrs. Carhart was with Pacific Northwest Bell Telephone Co. for 32 years, retiring in 1975 to accept a CWA staff position in Portland. She returned to Spokane last year.
She was women's auxiliary director for the local AFL-CIO COPE organization and received an award from the national organization in 1970 for 4,000 hours of volunteer service.
Mrs. Carhart was a 30-year member of Grace Baptist Church and a member of the Washington State Commission on Women, the Coalition of Labor Union Women and Alcyone Chapter 79, Order of Eastern Star. She also had been a Camp Fire Girls leader and worked with United Way.
She was a delegate and alternate delegate to the Democratic national conventions in 1972 and 1976. She also had received recognition for her volunteer work on campaigns for U.S. Rep. Tom Foley and U.S. Sen. Henry M. Jackson.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Pat (Sandra) Jewell of Spokane, and three grandchildren.
