Former Mapleton Man Dies In Long Beach After Short Illness
Word has been received here by Mrs. D. D. Cameron of the death of her brotherinlaw, D. V. West, in Long Beach, Cal., February 7, following a two week's illness. Funeral services were held in Long Beach.
Mr. West will be remembered by many here, for at one time he was associated with the Bowman Lumber company in Mapleton and Danbury.
Mrs. West, the former Miss Edith Carhart, was at one time a teacher in the Mapleton schools. She survives.

Former Mapleton Resident Dies In Long Beach, Cal.
Word has been received here by Mrs. D. D. Cameron of the death of her sister, Mrs. Edith Carhart West, a former Mapleton resident in Long Beach, Cal., May 21, following a heart attack.
Mrs. West was born in Plattville, Wis., in 1869 and came with her parents to Nevada, Ia. In 1881, she was graduated from the Nevada school and after graduation came to Mapleton and taught in the Mapleton schools.
She later moved to Maquet, Neb., where she taught until 1932 when she went West, locating at Costa Mesa, Cal. She taught there until her health failed last October. Her husband preceded her in death February 7, 1936.
She is survived by five sisters, Bessie Carhart and Louise Carhart of Long Beach, Mrs. Florence Scull of Buckeye, Ariz., and Mrs. Nora Stephens of Chicago and Mrs. Cameron of Mapleton.
