Local friends of the Rev. Walter A. Hall, superintendent of the Fond du Lac district of the Methodist Episcopal church, which includes Sheboygan, will be grieved to learn that his wife, Mrs. Mathilda Ellsworth Hall, died Sunday morning at her home, 104 Armory street, Fond du Lac. She was ill but fifteen minutes, and the cause of death was complications superinduced by gallstones. The Rev. Mr. Hall was officiating at the Greenbush Methodist church at the time.
Many Methodist friends will recall that at the recent Methodist conference in this city, the Rev. Mr. Hall was one of the most active workers at the conference. Mrs. Hall's funeral was held from the Division Street Methodist church yesterday afternoon and interment was in Rienzi cemetery.
Walter married second Mrs. Minona C. Hershey (6472) on 14 Aug 1924 in Chicago, Cook, Illinois, United States. Minona was born about 1870 in Wisconsin, United States.
Walter died at the age of 91 on 2 Sep 1949 in Green Bay, Brown, Wisconsin, United States. He was buried in Rienzi Cemetery, Find du Lac, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, United States. RETIRED MINISTER PASSES AWAY AT 91
The Rev. Walter A. Hall, 91 of Route 1, Oshkosh, prominent Methodist minister, passed away at 2 o'clock this morning at Bellin Memorial hospital, Green Bay, after an illness of the last four months.
Active in Methodist ministerial work for many years, the Rev. Mr. Hall served as pastor of Elo Methodist church and as superintendent of the Wisconsin conference of Methodist churches.
The former Elo pastor began his ministerial career in 1886 when he gave up the practice of medicine in favor of theology. He began his studies at Lawrence college, Appleton, and was a graduate of Boston university.
His first pastorate was at Green Bay, after which he served in seven Wisconsin cities. He was instrumental in the construction of Division Street Methodist church at Fond du Lac.
About 25 years ago he retired from his last regular appointment. He then served as supply pastor for a number of years and then undertook a pastorate at Chicago here he remained about 10 years.
38 Years in District
He had spent 38 years in the Wisconsin conference of Methodist churches, serving as district superintendent for six years. He was prominent in Sunday school organization and in national conferences.
The Rev. Mr. Hall served as pastor of Elo Methodist church for nine years, retiring about four years ago. Occasionally, he conducted Sunday services at his former pastorate.
The Methodist minister was born in Pontiac, Mich., March 16, 1858. He was married in Chicago to Mrs. Minona Hersey, Aug. 14, 1924.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Nina Morison, Chicago, and Mrs. Marjorie Hughes and Mrs. Marie Ets, both of New York; three sons, Russell C., Los Angeles, Stanley W., Oshkosh, and Everett W., Iowa City, Ia.; two sisters, Mrs. Evelyn Wheeler, Los Angeles, and Mrs. Grace Scott, San Diego; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements will be announced later. The remains have been removed to the Fiss & Bills funeral home.
