Mrs. Sarah A. Carhart Dies of Asthma
She Was Formerly Engaged in Mission Work With Her Husband at Brooklyn - Had Been Sick a Long Time.
Mrs. Sarah A. Carhart, wife of Rev. Isaac Carhart of Branch avenue, died last Friday Night. She had been in feeble health a long time and her death was due to asthma complicated with grip. On Tuesday of last week she was seized with congestive chills and sank steadily. Mrs. Carhart was 71 years old and was the daughter of the late Joseph Cook of Oceanport. Forty-five years ago she married Mr. Carhart and the couple began housekeeping at Brooklyn. At the outbreak of the civil war Mr. Carhart enlisted in the army.
After the war Mr. and Mrs. arhart moved to Branchport, where they lived eleven years. They then moved back to Brooklyn, where Mr. Carhart had charge of a mission. Mrs. Carhart was very active in mission work and it was largely through her efforts that over four hundred persons were converted at the mission. The mission was eventually incorporated as a church with Mr. Carhart as pastor. After serving as pastor of the church for a few years Mr. Carhart resigned and later accepted the pastorate of a church near Brooklyn.
Seven years ago Mr. and Mrs. Carhart moved to Red Bank and they had lived here ever since. Mrs. Carhart leaves one daughter, Mrs. Louisa A. Hoag of Red Bank. The funeral was held at the house on Monday morning and was conducted by Rev. R. T. Leary, pastor of the Little Silver Methodist church. It was largely attended. The body was buried in Fair View cemetery.

Isaac Carhart of Brooklyn, a veteran of the civil war and a former resident of Little Silver, died last Friday at the age of 76 years. He had been in poor health ever since he moved from Little Silver three years ago. Mr. Carhart was a Methodist local preacher and he frequently conducted services in the Little Silver Methodist church. He leaves a daughter who lives at Brooklyn. the funeral was held Monday at Brooklyn and the burial was made at Fair View (sic)cemetery by Robert T. Smith.
