Leroy Carhart Jr., 69 and his wife, Mrs Mary C. Oberstaedt Carhart, 65, died Saturday within an hour of each other at John F. Kennedy Medical Center, Edison
Mr. Carhart died of an apparent heart attack an hour after hearing of the death of his wife who died after a long illness.
Mrs. Carhart was born in Elizabetha nd lived in New York City before moving to Linden more than 50 years ago.
Mrs. Carhart was a member of the Rosary-Altar Society of St. John the Apostle R.C Church, the church's Senior Citizens group, the Catholic Daughters of America and Czechoslovakian Society of America.
Mr. Carhart was born in Elizabeth and lived most of his life in Linden.
He was a chemical engineet at E.I DuPont in Linden, 47 years, retiring in 1978. Mr. Carhart was a member of the Quarter-Century Club at DuPont. They were both members of the Linend Senior Citizens.
The Carharts were communicants of St. John the Apostle R.C. Church, Clark. 10:00 a.m. funeral mass
They are survived by four daughters, Mrs Mary C Hornyak of Rahway, Miss Carol Lee Carhart and Ms. Virginia K Carhart, both of Houston, Texas, and Mrs Helen J. Goodale of Woodhave, Mich., and four grandchildern.
Mrs Carhart is also survived by a brother, Martin Oberstaedt of Forked River; and a sister, Mrs Emma Schultz of Newport News, Va.
Mr Carhart is also survived by two brothers, Harry of Cranford, Albert of Linden ; and three sisters, Mrs Esther Mayer of Rahway, Mrs Celia Horvath and Mrs Agnes Didyoung, both of Linden.
