Obituary
Mrs. Mary Ann Carhart.
Mrs. Carhart was the wife of Mr. Joel Carhart, and her maiden name was Van Pelt. The family spent the greater part of their life in Matawan, both Mrs. and Mrs. Carhart having been born near what is known as Bethany. They were among the first who united with the Methodist society in this section, and were two of the very few members of the first cl??? meeting held in this village.
Mrs. Carhart has been slowly failing by advancing years, and has for some weeks been confined to her bed. Her death was that sweet peace experienced by a believer in Christ going to the eternal rest. She passed from loved ones here, on Monday evening ?? ?? ?? and greet children and other loved ones in heaven.
The family have resided twenty-four years at Milltown about two miles from new Brunswick, but the remains were brought to Matawan, because the relative and friends live in this section, and the funeral was held in the Methodist church on Sunday afternoon. The sermon was preached by Rev. L. M. Atkinson, of the Milltown M. E. church from the words of John, "I would and live always." Rev. Mr. ?? in the services. At the close the remains were taken to the family plot in Rose Hill Cemetery.
