Seth's Estate was probated on 25 May 1806 in Zanesville, Muskingum, Ohio, United States. [Personal note: Margaret purchased stock and other items at the Public Sale of Seth's Estate. Wonder why it was necessary for her to purchase those items rather than receive them as an inheritance. Perhaps it was because he died intestate?]
At the Courts of Common Pleas at April Term AD 1806 at Zanesville in and for the County of Muskingum before the Honorable Calvin Pease Esquire Residents and his Associates Justices of the said court on the 23rd Instants came, came Joseph Scott and Margaret Carharts; and on application Letters of Administration is granted them on the Estates of Seth Carhart deceased. Whereupon Valentine Johnston and Abel Lewis are accepted by the Court afore did as Sureties in the Sum of fifteen hundred Dollars, and James Tanner and John Walmsley and Peter Resoner are appointed appraisers to the estate aforesaid; and on the twenty fifth day of May Anno Domini 1806 came the said Joseph Scott Margaret Carhart and Abel Lewis and entered into Bond in the Sum of Fifteen hundred Dollars conditioned for the good performance of the said Joseph Scott as administrator and Margaret Carhart as administratrix agreeably to the requisitions of the law on the Estates Aforesaid; Whereupon Letters of administration Issued as follows:

Calvin Pease President Jesse Fulton & William Mitchel Esquires Associate Judges of the Court of Common Pleas of Muskingum County, to all whom it may concern greeting. Whereas Seth Carhart late of the County aforesaid, deceased, departed this life intestate as suggested, having whilst he lived and at the time of his death, [??] goods & chattels rights & credits and whereas at a court of Common Pleas unto for this county aforesaid by the said President and Associate Judges on the twenty third day of April in the year of our Lord 1806 on motion of Joseph Scott and Margaret Carhart they having made oath and given Bond of Security, according to law certificate was granted for obtaining Letters of Administration of the said Descendents Estates in due form: therefore we do by these Presents give and grant unto the said Joseph Scott and Margaret Carhart full power and authority to Administer all and singular the goods, chattels, rights and credits, of the said Estate of the deceased, agreement to the true intent meaning and spirit of the laws of this State; requiring you to make due returns to the said Court. As such times and in such manner as is presented by law. In Testimony the said Judges have caused me to set my hand and also caused the seal of this said court to be here unto affixed this twenty seventh day of May AD 1806 and in the 4th year of this state.
