*** George Carhart Dies Suddenly of Heart Attack ***
George W. Carhart, 87, of 2591 Eudora Street, father of Arthur H. Carhart, Denver author and naturalist, died suddenly of a heart attack Wednesday at his home. He had been in ill health more than a year.
Mr. Carhart was born July 23, 1853, at Platteville, Wis., and grew up in that state. He taught school there as a young man and later moved with his parents to a homestead in Iowa. From Nevada, Ia., he moved to Mapleton, Ia., in 1883 and started a grocery and hardware business there when that town was the end of the Northwestern Railroad, then building toward Sioux City. He retired in 1924 and moved to Canon City, Colo., where his wife died nine years ago. He then came to Denver to live with his son, who now is supervisor of Pittman-Robertson wildlife projects for the Colorado Game and Fish Commision. He was the last survivor of a family of six. He was a past master of the Masonic Lodge at Mapleton, Ia., and a member of the Odd Fellows Order. He is survived by his only son and daughter-in-law here.
Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Saturday at the Olinger Mortuary, Speer Boulevard and Sherman Street. Burial will be at Fairmount Cemetery.
